Setting up email in Thunderbird with Enlighten Hosting hosted Email

Open Thunderbird.

Click the cog icon at the bottom left, then Account Settings. If this is your first time opening Thunderbird, it may take you there automatically.

 

You may need to select add account, or open an existing account if you are modifying one.

 

 

 

We are going to set up the account to receive and send email.

You will need your email address and password.

 

Incoming server (to receive email)

Under Server Settings, enter the following. Use your full email address as the user name.

  • Server name: mail.enlightenhosting.com
  • Port: 993
  • Connection security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication method: Normal Password
  • User name: your full email address, in the format first.last@mydomain.co.nz

Click Test connection to server. It should connect.

If you want to confirm the server certificate is correct, click View Certificate. This is optional.

 

 

 

Outgoing server (to send email)

Select Outgoing Server, then add a new server or edit the existing one.

  • Description: mail.enlightenhosting.com
  • Server name: mail.enlightenhosting.com
  • Port: 465
  • Connection security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication method: Normal Password
  • User name: your full email address, in the format first.last@mydomain.co.nz

Click Test connection to server again.

If either connection fails, check for typing errors first, then check for a networking problem on your device. If both are fine, see the article "Basic Client Email Settings" for alternative connection options.

Finishing up

Return to your inbox tab and click the cloud icon.

You will likely be asked for your password twice, once for incoming and once for outgoing.

 

 

Once it is accepted, you are set up. Give Thunderbird time to sync your email.  You should see your email filling in which will confirm that receiving email is working, also try sending a message to be sure that works, too.
